although dated...

although a little dated, this book by Spencer Drate, Thomas Olejar and Sean Mosher-Smith gives a pretty good snapshot of the stae of the web in the late 90's, their are plenty of newer books on web design out there that are not as design heavy but its interesting to look back for nostalgia sake
Useless Web Related Book

Review Date: November 26, 2003
Reviewer: Aaauger, Austin, TX United States
Note the subtitle: award winning web site DESIGNERS, not designs. This is a compilation of graphics from a short list of web site design firms. No actual web site is presented in its entirety. The fact that these graphics originate from web pages is irrelevant in this book. The book strives to be artsy in itself, splattering a hodge-podge of non-sequitor images across each section prefaced by meaningless musings from a web designer. Even worse, many of the graphics are distorted and difficult to view. This is not a good source of web graphic ideas. Better ideas are available on the Internet for free.
Artistic But Not Usable

Like most of the websites described in the book, this book isn't very usable because it's trying so hard to be "artistic." The screen shots are blurry and the text and graphics are combined in such a way that it makes it difficult to read.

I could forgive the author if content was good, but it's not. Most of the websites that are described aren't usable in the real world. The use of frames, Flash and poor navigation is the norm throughout. All of which should be avoided when developing a website in most cases.

I bought this book for inspiration and it didn't inspire even one idea. If you're a web designer looking for inspiration, you might consider The Web Design Wow Book or The Big Book of Ideas. I use both books regularly to jump start the creative process.

Best Regards, Bill

Very Fresh and Cyber Feel

It's hard to find a WebArt book in the market. Web Art provides many new inspiration, ideas and examples for professional Web Designer. If you a Web Designer, you should COLLECT this book.

However, there is no teaching tutorial in the book. It just collects all good web page layout.

Great reference for web designers!

Reviewer: andrei polessi,
The book is a big compilation, presenting the best works in international web design. This book brings great examples from the greatest designers and web design studios as Razorfish, Entropy8, Meta Design, Carlos Segura, Frog Design, among others. Also comes with a great cd-rom, bringing interviews, samples of work, tips and a little "hands-on-training" workshop, explaning how a web design project would normally flow. Beautiful pages, totally illustrated and nice printing! Great to have and to inspire your future works!

How to Make Link Exchange in San Diego

You probably get spam in your inbox each day, and you know how annoying it can be. There are other types of spam that annoy people, and if you are trying to get word out about your site, or want higher rankings on the searches, you want to try to avoid those other types of spam. You can find ways to do link exchange in San Diego without spamming your web address all over the Internet. If you just post it in unrelated places for no reason, you are going to annoy the very people you are trying to attract, and you may be penalized by the search engines.

There are some programs out there for El Cajon’s exchange links. You want to be sure to read through how the program works before you use it. Some times, the best way to exchange links is to find many with the same basic content, but who may not be in direct competition, and to swap links with all of them. That can up your traffic, and those links will move you up in the rankings on many searches. They prove your relevancy to your content and keywords and makes you a better result when someone searches.

You can also try some tricks like having a series of blogs that you can use to post snippets of your content along with active links to these sites. You can use this free link exchange in El Cajon with many others who are working with you, or have related goals. You can all use the same blogs, but be sure they are not too spam-like. Post your links for an advantage. Not only do they help with search rankings, but they can also attract traffic on their own that leads real readers and shoppers to your site. It’s like a two in one tool that can work very well.

What you don’t want to do is to sign up for message boards and just randomly post your web address as San Diego’s link exchange software. For the most part, people on message boards are just going to have you deleted anyway, and your email address could be labeled as spam. That would be very bad. If you are already a respected member somewhere, you could post your links without an issue, but don’t go blindly into many places just to post and promote your site. It might seem like a good idea for link exchanges, but in most cases it backfires.

Poway’s Linux Tutorial for Beginners

Linux programming tutorial in San Diego is the wave of the future. Unfortunately, the future keep stubbornly refusing to arrive. You see, the very strengths of Linux – the strengths that make it vastly superior to other operating systems out there for personal computer users – are also its weaknesses. Linux is free – you can download, modify, sell, and do anything else you want with it. As a result of this, there is an incredibly expansive and dedicated network of geeks who devote huge amounts of spare time modifying their Linux systems.

Because of these hobbyists, Linux security is much better than Windows or Mac, the operating system runs faster, and it is constantly updated and improved. Unfortunately, this results in problems for computer users who are not very tech savvy. You see, even with Poway’s linux tutorial, running this operating system is sort of like owning a car that will only work if you know everything about how it runs. Most end users don’t want to put in this amount of effort. Linux tutorials or no, they want something that they can sit down at, figure out easily, and have run dependably.

Although there are some strains of Linux that are approaching this level of functionality, the vast majority of it is built by hackers for hackers. Bad old Microsoft Windows – that unstable, unsecured, badly programmed and bloated operating system, will be around for a long time because the Linux community can not get its act together and come out with a single standard for your average user. Nonetheless, good linux tutorials in San Diego can definitely help. The other day, I installed the Linux tutorial on my computer to help me learn Ubuntu Linux. It was pretty extensive, but it had a very useful multitiered approach.

If you are new to Linux and only want to learn the basics, you can go through a program that will teach you that alone. If, on the other hand, you want to learn redhat linux tutorial in Poway inside and out, it will guide you through a more detailed course of study. Because it is multilevel, the Ubuntu Linux tutorial can grow with you. In addition to the tutorial, I downloaded an Ubuntu Linux guide. That particular dialect of Linux, you see, is meant for neophytes like myself. After a few hours struggling with the program, I was able to learn to find my way around the operating system pretty well. The Linux command tutorial didn’t tell me everything, but it told me enough. And enough, after all, was all I wanted.
